QUALITY POLICY STATEMENT

Quality Policy of the academic unit for the development and improvement
of the Master’s Degree Program "Environmental, Disaster, and Crisis Management Strategies"

The Quality Assurance Policy of the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment is fully harmonized with the Quality Policy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, making the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment (hereinafter the Department), committed to providing high quality Greek and foreign language higher education to the students who choose it, organizing and implementing Master's Degree Programs of high academic standards and significant added value, both in Greek and English, in the most important areas and fields of the Department's science. In addition, the Department seeks to develop a creative research environment, free scientific expression and work for all its staff and members of the academic community. The Department is committed to the implementation of this quality policy, in every Postgraduate Study Program it offers and will offer in the future, implementing the quality procedures provided for by the Foundation's Internal System of Quality Assurance, with the final aim of their continuous improvement. Through this Quality Policy, the academic profile and orientation of postgraduate study programs is strengthened, their purpose and object is promoted, as well as the implementation of specific goals set each year, while the means and methods of achieving the above are determined and the participation of interested parties in their evaluation and redesign processes are ensured.

In particular, for the implementation of this policy and in the Master's Degree Program "Environmental, Disaster, and Crisis Management Strategies", the Department undertakes to implement the quality processes/procedures provided for and analyzed in the Quality Manual of the Foundation's Internal System of Quality Assurance, and are applied at the level of the Department's Study Programs with the required specialization/individualization in the said Master's Degree Program, and in close collaboration with the Foundation's Quality Assurance Unit. All quality assurance procedures of the Department's Master's Degree Programs are subject to inspection, review and revision, which are carried out on an annual basis by the Internal Evaluation Group, in collaboration with the Foundation's Quality Assurance Unit. The processes – procedures applied to monitor and continuously improve the quality of the Master's Degree Programs are the following:

  1. The Implementation of Quality Assurance Policy of the Master’s Degree Programs, which includes specific quality assurance actions, with the aim of creating a framework within which the Master's Degree Programs must operate.
  2. The provision and management of the resources of the Department's Master's Degree Programs through procedures that contribute to the optimal choices, in order to achieve the creation of a suitable environment for the achievement of the Foundation's goals in terms of ensuring the provision of the required resources to necessary staff, funding, infrastructure and equipment, in order to operate but also to continuously improve the efficiency of the Master's Degree Programs in terms of the degree of achievement of the quality objectives they set.
  3. The Establishment of Quality Assurance Objectives on an annual basis by all the Department's Master's Degree Programs which operate or are about to start operating within the academic year. Specific measurable and directly observable annual quantitative and qualitative goals are selected for each Master's Degree Program, after consultation and agreement of the administration of the Departments and the Master's Degree Program, which are evaluated by specific indicators. The achievement of these objectives is considered of decisive importance for the improvement of the efficiency of the internal functions (administrative, educational, research) of the Master’s Degree Programs.
  4. The Periodic Internal Evaluation and Monitoring on an annual basis of all Master's Degree Programs of the Department in collaboration and with the support of the Institution's Quality Assurance Unit. In all Master's Degree Programs an internal evaluation and assessment of all the processes implemented in them is carried out, so that through the identification of elements and issues for correction with the implementation of jointly agreed improvements with the Quality Assurance Unit, the goals that have been set are achieved, with the final result of improving the Department's Master's Degree Programs.
  5. The Quality Data Collection: measurement, analysis and improvement of Master's Degree Programs of the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment, in which effective procedures are applied to collect and analyze information about Master's Degree Programs (student data, teaching staff, the structure and organization of courses, teaching and the provision of services to students of Master's Degree Programs, etc.) and the Integrated Information National Quality System of the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education, as well as internal information systems of the Departments and the Foundation are fed with data,.
  6. The Publication of Information about Master’s Degree Programs of the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment. Through this specific process, all information regarding the Master's Degree Programs becomes immediately accessible, up-to-date and formulated with objectivity and clarity. Checking the existence of a specialized space on the Department's website for the promotion of Master's Degree Programs, the existence of a special bilingual page for them as well as the procedures for checking and updating their content.
  7. The External Evaluation of the Master’s Degree Programs του Τμήματος. A periodic certification process by Hellenic Authority for Higher Education, which is carried out with external evaluation by committees of independent experts, is applied to all Postgraduate Programs of the Department.

The implementation of the above procedures in the Master’s Degree Program "Environmental, Disaster, and Crisis Management Strategies" will ensure a)the appropriateness of the structure and organization of his Study Programme, b) that the learning outcomes and the resulting qualifications of the graduates of the Master's Degree Program are intended to correspond as closely as possible with the European and National Framework of Higher Education Qualifications level 7, c) the promotion of the quality and effectiveness of the teaching work of the said Master's Degree Program through its monitoring by its Coordinating Committee, the Internal Evaluation Group, the Department's administration, and the Quality Assurance Unit of the NKUA, d) that the qualifications of the teaching staff, and especially of the external collaborators, are suitable for the training of postgraduate students, e) the drafting, implementation and review of specific annual quality objectives for the improvement of the Master's Degree Program "Environmental, Disaster, and Crisis Management Strategies", f) the level of demand for the acquired qualifications of the graduates in the labor market, through the investigation at regular intervals of the needs of the labor market and the monitoring of the course of the graduates of the Master’s Degree Program "Environmental, Disaster, and Crisis Management Strategies", g) that the support services provided to postgraduate students – including students with disabilities are of a high quality – meet their needs for effective attendance, e.g. easily accessible and available administrative and library services, online services, scholarships, and student welfare services appropriate for the Master's Degree Program, h) the efficient utilization of the financial resources of the Master's Degree Program that come from tuition fees in order to provide the necessary services to the postgraduate students and to facilitate the operation of the programs in the facilities of the Department, but also in everything else required, e.g. on-site visits to places outside the Department for their comprehensive training, i) conducting the annual internal assessment and review of the quality assurance system for the Master's Degree Program "Environmental, Disaster, and Crisis Management Strategies" with the collaboration of the Internal Evaluation Group and the Foundation's Quality Assurance Unit.

The Quality objectives on which the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment will focus its efforts for the Master’s Degree Program "Environmental, Disaster, and Crisis Management Strategies" will be the following:

  1. Improving the Graduation Rate of Postgraduate Students
  2. Strengthening the Quality Culture in the Master's Degree Program "Environmental, Disaster, and Crisis Management Strategies"
  3. Achieving greater Study Flexibility and strengthening Student-Centered Learning
  4. The Activation of Study Counseling and the connection of graduates with the Labor Market
  5. Strengthening the participation of postgraduate students in quality assurance procedures
  6. The improvement of the Connection of Studies with Research and the preparation of doctoral theses
  7. Utilization, Collaboration and Networking with Graduates of the Department and the Master's Degree Program
  8. The further development of mobility and extroversion through the attraction of Foreign Students to the Master’s Degree Program and Teachers from Foreign Institutions
  9. The improvement of the infrastructure and support services of the student community of the Master's Degree Program
  10. The further facilitation of the Accessibility of the disabled
  11. The promotion of equal representation of the genders

 

Quality Assurance Policy (pdf)


For the admission of the MSc Program “Environmental, Disaster, and Crisis Management Strategies” tuition fees are applied.

The total amount of the tuition fees is determined by the General Assembly of Special Composition (GASC), at the proposal of the Steering Committee (SC).

The financial management of all the resources of the MSc Program is conducted by the Special Account for Research Grants, based on the financial guide and the relevant decisions of the Senate of the National University of Athens.

The tuition fee covering the three semesters of study is four thousand eight hundred (4,800) euros, which includes the participation in the individual seminar courses within the framework of the field seminars, excluding travel, accommodation and food expenses


Way of payment

The financial management of all the resources of the MSc Program is conducted by the Special Account for Research Grants, based on the financial guide and the relevant decisions of the Senate of the National University of Athens.

Tuition fees are paid via bank using a unique RF code assigned to each student.


Scholarships

A number of Postgraduate Students will be given the opportunity to receive scholarships. The number shall not exceed 10% of the registered students. The SSC selects the beneficiaries based on their performance during the first and second semesters. Students eligible to apply for a scholarship are those who have successfully completed all the courses of the first academic year and at the same time have a cumulative grade point average of 8.5 or higher for the first and second semesters.

The SC of the Program is responsible for deciding the total amount of the grant, which may not exceed the amount of the fees corresponding to the 3rd semester in any case

Applications for the exemption of the tuition fees for the third semester will be made after the announcement of the results for the first two semesters and they will be announced via the MSc Program’s web page

The applications will be examined by the Steering Committee and the results will be announced within 10 days. The SSC reserves the right of revoking a scholarship if the Master Thesis has not been submitted by the end of the 3rd semester or if it has not been awarded with a grade higher than 8. In this case, the former beneficiary will be required to pay the full tuition fees.


By meeting the necessary requirements, students who are eligible for admittance are: higher education graduates of Greece, higher education graduates of EU countries, and holders of recognized higher education degrees of the rest of the world, in accordance with current legislation. Furthermore, attendance is possible for graduates of Higher Education Institutes (HEI) and Technological Educational Institutes (TEI), Military Academies, Police Academies, Firefighting Academies, the Coast Guard, Schools of Public Administration, etc., from a wide variety of disciplines, for individuals who are interested, experienced, or have some expertise in areas relevant to the subject of the MSc Program

According to par. 8 of art. 34 of Law 4485/17, as supernumerary scholars, specialized staff of the University are accepted.

In accordance with Law 4485/2017 and the provisions of this Postgraduate Program Regulation the candidates are evatuated.
Every reasonable period of time (March or October) by decision of the Assembly of the Department of Geology and Geoenvironment, a notice for the admission of postgraduate students to the MSc Program is published on the website of the Department and the Foundation. Applications along with the required supporting documents are submitted to the MSc Program Secretariat, within a deadline specified in the announcement and may be extended by decision of the Department's Assembly.

Required supporting documents are:

  1. Copy of Police ID or Passport.
  2. Copy of Degree (if the candidate holds more than one Degree, he should submit a copy of all his degrees).
    - Holders of foreign degrees should also present a certificate of equivalence from DOATAP (DIKATSA).
    - Graduates of Pedagogical Academies should also submit a certificate of equivalence with the Higher Pedagogical Departments.
    - Final students of Higher Education Institutions who estimate that they will have successfully completed their studies by Agust 31, should provide a Detailed Score and a Responsible Declaration in which they will declare that they are final students and present the certificate of completion of studies to the Secretariat PMS until September 1st.
  3. Certificate of Studies and Analytical Score of 1st Degree (if the candidate holds more than one Degree, he/she should submit a certificate of studies and analytical score for all his/her degrees).
  4. Copies of postgraduate diplomas or PhDs (if available).
  5. Αντίγραφο πιστοποιητικού γνώσης αγγλικής γλώσσας .
    - Ως πιστοποιητικά γνώσης αγγλικής γλώσσας γίνονται δεκτά όλα τα αναγνωρισμένα διπλώματα αγγλικής γλώσσας. Επίσης γίνονται δεκτά και τα πτυχία από αγγλόφωνα πανεπιστήμια και οι αναλυτικές βαθμολογίες στην οποίες αναγράφονται μαθήματα αγγλικής γλώσσας
    - Οι υποψήφιοι που δεν είναι κάτοχοι πιστοποιητικού γνώσης της αγγλικής γλώσσας θα έχουν τη δυνατότητα να τεκμηριώσουν τη γνώση της αγγλικής γλώσσας με γραπτή δοκιμασία. Η γραπτή διαδικασία μπορεί να είναι α) συγγραφή έκθεσης στα αγγλικά με θέμα που θα επιλέξει η Σ.Ε. του Π.Μ.Σ. ή β) διαγώνισμα με ερωτήσεις κλειστού τύπου. Οι ενδιαφερόμενοι θα ενημερωθούν για τη διαδικασία από τη Γραμματεία του Π.Μ.Σ. μέσω email, κατόπιν απόφασης της Σ.Ε. του Π.Μ.Σ.
  6. Αντίγραφα πιστοποιητικών γνώσης ξένων γλωσσών πέραν της αγγλικής(εφόσον υπάρχει).
  7. Αντίγραφα πιστοποιητικών γνώσης χρήσης ηλεκτρονικών υπολογιστών.
  8. Βιογραφικό Σημείωμα

Οι φοιτητές από ιδρύματα της αλλοδαπής πρέπει να προσκομίσουν πιστοποιητικό αντιστοιχίας και ισοτιμίας από τον ΔΟΑΤΑΠ, σύμφωνα με το άρ.34, παρ. 7 του Ν. 4485/17.

Η επιλογή των εισακτέων πραγματοποιείται από τη ΣΕ του ΠΜΣ και επικυρώνεται από την Συνέλευση του Τμήματος Γεωλογίας και Γεωπεριβάλλοντος, με βάση τα ακόλουθα κριτήρια:

  • Bachelor Degree's GPA (Grade Point Average): 20%
  • Thesis subject, when applicabe in Bachelor Degree: 5%
  • Ο βαθμός σε μαθήματα συναφή με τα αντικείμενα του Π.Μ.Σ. σε ποσοστό 5%
  • Κατοχή δεύτερου πτυχίου Α΄ ή Β΄ κύκλου σπουδών σε ποσοστό 10%
  • PhD holder: 20%
  • Πιστοποιημένη γνώση αγγλικής γλώσσας σε επίπεδο υψηλότερο αυτού της προϋπόθεσης εισαγωγής, σε ποσοστό έως 10%
    Πιστοποιημένη γνώση επιπλέον ξένων γλωσσών και επίπεδο γλωσσομάθειας, σε ποσοστό έως 10%
  • Επίπεδο γνώσης χειρισμού Η/Υ στα αντικείμενα: α) επεξεργασίας κειμένων, β) υπολογιστικών φύλλων και γ) υπηρεσιών διαδικτύου, σε ποσοστό έως 10%
  • Ερευνητική δραστηριότητα και τυχόν δημοσιεύσεις, η προηγούμενη πρακτική εμπειρία, η επαγγελματική ενασχόληση σε τομείς συναφείς με το αντικείμενο του Π.Μ.Σ., η δράση σε οργανισμούς σχετικούς με το αντικείμενο του ΠΜΣ κ.λπ., σε ποσοστό έως 10%.

Με βάση τα συνολικά κριτήρια, η ΣΕ καταρτίζει τον Πίνακα αξιολόγησης των φοιτητών και τον καταθέτει προς έγκριση στη Συνέλευση, καθώς και αντίστοιχο αριθμό επιλαχόντων. Τα αποτελέσματα της αξιολόγησης αναρτώνται στην ιστοσελίδα του ΠΜΣ: www.edcm.edu.gr.

Σε περίπτωση ισοβαθμίας, οι ισοβαθμούντες φοιτητές γίνονται δεκτοί ως υπεράριθμοι. Επίσης, γίνονται δεκτοί ως υπεράριθμοι υπότροφοι του Ιδρύματος Κρατικών Υποτροφιών (ΙΚΥ) ή άλλων δημοσίων ή ιδιωτικών φορέων, οργανισμών, κοινωφελών ιδρυμάτων κ.λπ.

Οι απορριφθέντες έχουν δικαίωμα να υποβάλουν ένσταση και αίτημα επαναξιολόγησης της υποψηφιότητάς τους εντός 5 εργάσιμων ημερών από την ημερομηνία που θα λάβουν από τη Γραμματεία του ΠΜΣ email στο οποίο θα ενημερώνονται για την απόρριψή τους. Σε περίπτωση μη εγγραφής ενός ή περισσοτέρων φοιτητών, θα κληθούν αν υπάρχουν, οι επιλαχόντες, με βάση τη σειρά τους στον εγκεκριμένο αξιολογικό πίνακα, να εγγραφούν στο Πρόγραμμα.
